If it seems not to have much point early, stick with it. You'll be rewarded. Biesty is a master at creating a sense of simultaneous working-class struggle and aimlessness, and his main character, Dan Carolan, is a polished and practiced cynic with good reason to be. His roommates are a circus of users who take petty advantage of one another and are mostly jerks. This is an excellent first novel. I found it interesting that Biesty is retired from the New York City Fire Department. A note to the editors: Hemingway either has one M or two. Can't be both. And "dieing" doesn't mean to change the color of something. Excellent book, though, and a lively read.

 The Outcast Missing Someone got a Great Review from Shelly R and she posted it on Amazon and GoodReads. I Thank Her and repost here. Titled A One of a Kind Amazing Book. This was an enjoyable and thought provoking read. I stalled a bit at one point early on trying to figure out where things were going and what was going on. Shortly after the book turned around completely and I just could put it down or believe what I was reading. In the matter of a few page turns the whole book changed completely. I don't want to mention much of anything about the storyline itself for fear of giving anything away. This book really makes you look at things from a different prospective as you read and allows you to see other view points on matters. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a great book that is thought provoking, detail oriented, and is just an amazing book.  I received a very nice review on Amazon for The Outcast Missing Someone . It's from Andrew. I repost it here: Format : Paperback Remembering what Alphabet City and the East Village were like before gentrification, I appreciated the portrait Biesty paints of the changes and struggles of those neighborhoods and that era. We see the action through the eyes of main character Dan, who is in many ways going through a similar transformation as the neighborhood. Dan begins by describing his destitute circumstance without yet revealing the reason he finds himself there. The reader is only shown Dan as he sees himself--complete with the walls he has constructed to isolate himself. Dan often relies on prejudices and superficial stereotypes to justify his sense of superiority over those he feels are viewed as socially and economically above his current situation. It isn't until Dan's fortunes change--and not immediately after they do--that he turns inward for any kind of self examin...
